USCG station 1950's This is a 8 x 10 photo of Ocracoke Coast Guard Station. It was taken in 1950's when it was still a very active station. It was taken between 1957 & 1959 after the first ferry started running between Atlantic, NC and Ocracoke. Note the ferry dock, line of traffic, ticket office and unpaved parking lot at mid right side which was then a camp ground. Also note no visitors center. This is a copy of an official Coast Guard photograph The stamp on back of the official photo said it was the Ocracoke Station in the 5th CG District of Portsmouth VA. So someone wrote Ocracoke VA on the front bottom and I marked through the VA as you can see. Submitted by Ellen Cloud |
